Description: IN 2019 WE WILL BE CELEBRATING 25 YEARS... BRINGING LIGHT TO THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY This year’s theme is an expression of the many ‘rivers of light’ created by LightnUp’s hundreds of lantern processions and community events across Australia over the last 25years. Just as each little river of light stretches across the land so it is invited to return back to its source at the Lismore Lantern Parade – Rivers of Light The Lismore Lantern Parade is an annual community arts festival held on or around the longest night of the year, being the Winter Solstice. It is recognised as a signature event for the City of Lismore. Each year the lantern parade involves participants from throughout the Northern Rivers and visitors to the region who have attended workshops in lantern, mask and costume making, the finale show, carnival dance and the parade bands. The Lismore Lantern Parade attracts more than 30,000 people each year and provides a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The festival celebrates community, art and nature with arts, crafts, workshops, regional cuisine, a spectacular parade, lanterns, parade bands, street theatre, music, carnival dancers, illuminated puppets, fire art and pyrotechnics and much, much more. The Lismore Lantern Parade is the feature event of not for profit organisation, LightnUp Inc, and membership is drawn from local businesses, government, schools and universities, performing and visual artists and the community of the Northern Rivers.
